The free, self-paced program is great fun for younger readers and offers a chance for one of them to win a prize.
This year's Summer Reading Club theme is "A Roomful of Stories", celebrating the International Year of Indigenous Language.
Primary school-aged children can come to the library to receive an activity booklet with free colouring pencils.
All club participants, regardless of age, will also receive a booklet of additional reading suggestions.
To be eligible for the prize, primary or high school-aged children need only to write a review for a book they have enjoyed over the summer, and place that review in the entry box at the library.
The winner, drawn on January 29, will win movie tickets to take themselves and several of their friends to the cinema.
Throughout the summer school holidays, the library will also offer free board games, Xbox Kinect, craft activities and hundreds of books and DVDs in the children's area on level 0.
Parents and carers are invited to bring a coffee and relax in the cool while the kids get busy. The children's area now includes the library's collection of junior non-fiction books, which has already proven popular with young seekers of knowledge.

For anyone travelling during the break, there are thousands of audiobooks, available on disc or as downloads, to listen to on long car trips.
Wagga Wagga City Library will close at 4pm on Tuesday, December 24. It will re-open at 10am on Thursday, January 2.
The library chute remains open during this period, and members can access the online library (rrl.nsw.gov.au/elibrary) at any time for eBooks, eAudiobooks and films. From everyone at Wagga Wagga City Library, merry Christmas and a happy new year to all.
