Fashion Tip was a late scratching at the barriers at Wagga on Thursday after playing up in the gates.
Wagga trainer Wayne Carroll had Fashion Tip nominated at Corowa as a back-up for Wagga, should the meeting been lost due to smoke from the bushfires.
The meeting went ahead but the back-up plan was needed after Fashion Tip was ruled out at the last minute.
Carroll said it was uncharacteristic behaviour from the five-year-old mare.
"She had a little bit of a hissy fit in the barriers the other day, which she's never done before," Carroll explained.
"I've put it down to a few missed runs, a really hot day and she went in first and was in there a long time. She was agitated.
"We had her in at Corowa in case Wagga didn't race so we were lucky."
Rather than racing in an open handicap over 1200 metres, Fashion Tip will contest the Mulwala Water Ski Club Benchmark 66 Handicap (1400m). Wagga apprentice Josh Richards will take the ride from barrier nine.
Carroll does not believe the extra 200 metres should be too much of a concern.
"She ran second in the Country Championships Prelude at Albury so she certainly can run the distance," he said.
"She has missed a few runs but you've just got to take what's available at the moment with the smoked out meetings.
"Her work has been excellent. She will need to get across, she's an on-pace type of horse but if she can get a nice spot in the first half dozen I think she'll be a player for sure."
In the same race at Corowa is the Trevor Sutherland-trained Azaryah. She is unbeaten from three starts for the stable and will be chasing a fourth consecutive success on the way to the Country Championships.
