Wagga City Council pledged $20,000 to Wagga Boat Club to undertake the test bore, which will be drilled 150 metres into the ground within the Lakehaven Drive Reserve.
Drilling is expected to conclude by Tuesday.
The test bore will then be monitored to determine if water is available before proponents look to secure funding a permanent bore.
