More than 1000 charges laid against 'abhorrent' domestic violence offenders

Police said that out of 554 people arrested between May 15 and 18, 226 people were wanted for serious domestic violence offences.

"Anyone who commits this heinous crime can expect a knock at their door," the minister for police and counter-terrorism Yasmin Catley said.

She said this "abhorrent behaviour is not tolerated".

A 53-year-old Mid North Coast man was among the hundreds of alleged violent abusers arrested across the state.

He was accused of drawing an imitation firearm to threaten a 47-year-old woman at home in West Kempsey at 12.50pm on May 15.

Police were called and a search of the home ended in the firearm and cannabis being seized.

He was refused bail to appear before Kempsey Local Court.

NSW Police deputy commissioner Peter Thurtell said that this arrest and others like it sent "a powerful message to offenders and the community at large".

"We do not tolerate domestic and family violence in any form, and our efforts will continue," he said.

"These offenders pose a significant threat to their victims, as well as family members and the wider community.
