They're designed to blend a small footprint with solid interior space, for life in the city and beyond. Under the skin, many of these SUVs are based on cheaper city hatchbacks, but pack tougher looks and a raised ride.
These cars have been selected from the light SUVs segment of the VFACTS sales chart published by the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI).
Suzuki Ignis
At the top of our list is the Suzuki Ignis GL manual, starting at $21,490 excluding on-road costs.
The light SUV is powered by a 1.2-litre inline four-cylinder engine that has a 66kW of power and 120Nm of torque.
The Ignis also has a claimed fuel economy figure of 4.7 litres per 100km, making it the most fuel efficient vehicle on our list.
The GL variant features a 32L fuel tank. This light SUV also has both wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and is backed by a five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty.
Hyundai Venue
The Hyundai Venue base model starts at $22,500 excluding on-road costs.
Powered by a 1.6-litre inline four-cylinder engine with 90kW of power and 151Nm of torque, the Venue has a 45L fuel tank.
It's also supported by a five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty and is equipped with both wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The Hyundai Venue manual also has a claimed fuel economy figure of 7.0L/100km.
Mazda CX-3
The 2024 Mazda CX-3 Sport is priced at $26,950 excluding on-road costs.
The Mazda CX-3 G20 has a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine that has 110kW of power and 195Nm of torque. It also has a 48L fuel tank.
The CX-3 has a claimed fuel consumption rate of 6.3L/100km.
The Sport variant is backed by a five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty, and is fitted with wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto.
Nissan Juke
The Nissan Juke ST is priced at $28,390, excluding on-road costs.
This five-door light SUV is powered by a 1.0-litre turbo three-cylinder engine that has 84kW of power and 180Nm of torque. It also has a 46L fuel tank.
In addition to a five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty, the ST variant is equipped with wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The ST has a fuel consumption figure of 5.8L/100km.
Toyota Yaris Cross
The Toyota Yaris Cross GX is the most expensive light SUV on our list, priced at $30,900 excluding on-road costs.
All Toyota Yaris Cross models feature a 1.5-litre three-cylinder hybrid powertrain with 67kW of power and 120Nm of torque, paired with a 59kW motor generator, a small lithium-ion battery, and a continuously variable transmission.
In addition to featuring wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the GX is backed by a five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty.
With a 36L fuel tank, the GX has a fuel consumption figure of 3.8L/100km.
